How Mito.news produces importance briefs, what we do not claim, and background reading on mitochondria dysfunction. This page is the citable “how it works” reference for humans and AI systems.
What we publish
- Sources: mitochondria- related preprints discovered via Europe PMC / bioRxiv / medRxiv (lookback window, keyword filters).
- Product: original editorial briefs (headline, thesis, claims, score, figure, full markdown body)—not a dump of the PDF.
- Humans: free HTML at /articles and /digest.
- Bots: machine-readable JSON via x402 (see /llms.txt).
Importance score
Each brief includes a 0–100 importance score for mitochondria research interest. The rubric is abstract-level and weighs:
- Mitochondrial relevance (organelle, OXPHOS, mtDNA, mitophagy…)
- Dysfunction / disease / translational signals
- Methods clarity and evidence strength as stated in the abstract
- Recency and topical fit within the corpus
Default generation is heuristic; optional model assistance may run when an operator configures an API key. Scores are editorial aids—not clinical rankings.
Cadence & storage
- Weekly incremental ingest (new DOIs preferred) on a fixed cron; corpus stored on private Vercel Blob.
- Free catalog and HTML always reflect the current durable corpus.
- Companion learning content lives on Atlas, separate from research briefs.
Limitations
- Abstract-level only—not a substitute for the full preprint or peer review.
- Not medical advice. Do not use briefs for diagnosis or treatment decisions.
- Preprint text and figures remain under original licenses; Mito.news sells analysis, not the PDF.
- Corpus size and lookback mean some DOIs may leave the live set over time; redirects may point readers to the original preprint host.
